This is Gilbert!

The Story Of Gilbert
and other interesting tales

That little guy up there is Gilbert. He's Barefoot Software's ambassador to the world. Gilbert was originally designed by Roger Holmes, our Director of Graphics Arts from 1993 - 1995. At first, Gilbert was just a computer with legs. Then he got arms, and, once he acquired a face, he really began to have a personality.

Barefoot CIO Buddy Burden posed for the feet.

Barefoot Software's name was coined by longtime friend of the company Rob Goldheim. When Network Business Systems decided to incorporate (see our Corporate History for details), we went looking for a new name. Something that didn't sound stodgy and boring. Something that expressed our creativity as programmers. Something that could NOT be bundled into a TLA. Rob came up with the perfect name.

At Barefoot, we recognize programming as a creative endeavor. We don't recycle the same old solutions over and over again. And we want our name to reflect that. Like a graphics design firm or a special effects company, creative minds need a creative name to represent them.
